7 Easy Steps Your Healthy Heart Will Love

The American Heart Association has developed a seven step list to help people live a longer, healthier life. They call it “seven small steps to big changes.”
The beauty of the seven steps is that anyone can make these simple modifications, none of them are expensive to make, and even working on just a few of them can make a big difference in improved health.
Following the American Heart Association’s “Life’s Simple 7” will increase your odds of living a long, healthy life.
Start with just one or two!
Manage Blood Pressure
High blood pressure is the number one risk factor for heart disease. Make sure you know what your blood pressure numbers are. Regularly check your numbers and take the steps necessary to get (or keep) your blood pressure in the normal range.

This is another number you need to keep track of. High cholesterol is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Have regular cholesterol monitoring from your doctor and discuss how to keep these numbers at a healthy level.
You know the good list: lots of fruit and vegetables, whole grains, fish, etc.
And you’re also aware of what need to be limited—mostly added sugars and high sodium products. If you do more of the good and less of the bad, your health will improve.
Here’s one more number you need to keep an eye on—your weight. Make sure you maintain a healthy weight. If you need to get this number down, you know what to do—reduce the calories coming in with healthy food choices, and increase the calories going out with physical activity.
You’ve heard it before, but it’s important—if you smoke, you really need to quit!
